Brunello di Montalcino DOCG

This six-acre vineyard in southern Montalcino is meticulously cared for by the Marchetti family. The winery Fossacolle was established in 1984 and the first vintage of Brunello was 1997. The unique microclimate benefits from the winds of nearby Maremma.

Soil: Medium textured, soil tending to clay and limestone with some layers of tuff

Hand-harvested grapes are de-stemmed and put in stainless steel tanks where cold, pre-fermentation lasts 5-6 days; fermentation at controlled temperature of 87°F using natural yeasts for the first stage and selected yeasts for the second stage; alternating pump-over and cap punching with some delestage during the maceration phase; complete malolactic fermentation in cement vats

Aging Process
Half the wine ages 12 months in 225 L French oak barriques (second or third use), followed by 12 months in 25 hl Slovenian oak barrels; the other half undergoes the same process in the opposite order. Wine is transferred to glass-lined cement vats for an additional 12 months and bottle refined for eight months.

Color: Ruby red
Bouquet: On the nose it shows alluring aromas of ripe red berries and delicate spices
Flavor: On the palate the full body is gratifying and persistent, with outstanding minerality. Remarkable tannins, soft and creamy in texture, confer concentration and aging potential to this wine
Pairings: Perfect with red meat including game, and savory or aged cheese.
