Starting in the 2012 vintage, Malandrino represents the entry level Montepulciano d’Abruzzo for Cataldi Madonna. This wine is produced from grapes grown in six vineyards in Ofena, the “oven of Abruzzo”.

Malandrino means a rascal or to be naughty. The name was selected during a dinner with friends at the winery.

Vinification
Soft pressing, post-fermentation maceration of 25 days, conducted with periodic and regular pumping of the must on the cap of marc in conjunction with the practice of delestage. After racking, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in stainless steel

Aging Process
12 months in stainless steel and cement followed by at least three months of bottle refinement

Tasting Notes
Color: Deep ruby red color and nuances of ruby red, little transparency
Bouquet: Intense, clean and pleasing aromas of black cherry, blueberry, plum, carob and violet followed by pleasing aromas of walnut-husk
Flavor: Balanced, agreeable tannins, good body and intense flavors; finish is persistent with flavors of black cherry and plum
Pairings: Ideal throughout the meal and can stand up to strong flavors
