Sagrantino di Montefalco Passito DOCG

Sagrantino is a native varietal of Umbria, which, according to some, was brought to the region by Franciscan monks centuries ago. In the last 30 years, Sagrantino has enjoyed a resurgence in Umbria. Rich in tannins and polyphenols, Sagrantino shows off a softer side of its unique character when vinified into a passito. This limited production passito has an aging potential of over 15 years.

Grapes are dried on trellises for about two months before being vinified using natural yeasts in stainless steel tanks for 20 days at 22 °C. Maceration on the skins with daily pumping over for 20 days.

Aging Process
Aged a minimum of 6 months in small, French oak barriques. The wine then has a short passage in stainless steel before being bottle refined for an ­additional 18 months

Tasting Notes
Color: Intense ruby red with purple glints
Bouquet: Concentrated nose of blackberry and cherries with a seasoned ­undertone
Flavor: On the palate it is full, rich and sweet, with an initial tannic sensation and a long tasty finish of chocolate, savory spices and blackberry
Pairings: Perfect with fruit tarts, strudels, dark chocolate and dried fruits, but it is also an intriguing meditation wine
