“Luminous full red. The lively, perfumed nose combines red cherry, blueberry, minerals and flinty aromas. Rich and densely packed, showing captivating peppery lift to the very ripe red and blue fruit flavors. I distinctly remember just how deceptively accessible this was when I tasted it with Alessia Salvioni in her small cellar in downtown Montalcino back in February 2017; it has continued to develop nicely since then and really showcases the depth, solid structure and length to support a long, graceful evolution in bottle. Knockout Brunello from one of the quality leaders of Montalcino (and Italy, for that matter).”

“Delicate aromas of new leather, wild berry, chopped mint and a balsamic whiff of eucalyptus come together on this stunning wine. The palate is still youthfully restrained, but already offers juicy Marasca cherry, raspberry compote, star anise and a hint of truffle set against tightly wound, refined tannins. Bright acidity provides balance. It needs time to unwind and fully develop but promises to blossom into a stunner. Drink 2023–2038.”

“Tasted from barrel, the 2013 Brunello di Montalcino La Cerbaiola is a fine and delicate expression. The bouquet opens gracefully to show pressed violets, blanched almond, wild spice and crisp forest berry. Like most of Salvioni’s wines, this newest release is all about those tiny details. All those miniature components come together to build volume and intensity as the wine settles firmly over the palate. This vintage is slightly more streamlined and thin, yet the polished intensity of the mouthfeel is satisfying and long regardless.”

“The 2012 Brunello di Montalcino La Cerbaiola is a beautiful expression with delicate berry flavors that wrap over the palate with polished perfection. The house style at Salvioni prizes ethereal elegance in a manner that few others can achieve within the Brunello appellation. These wines present a new facet each time you return to contemplate the fluid and ever changing bouquet. Spicy tar, clove and toasted nut appear as almost indistinguishable afterthoughts on.”

“Good full red. Expressive aromas of dark cherry, rose petal, violet, fresh herbs and flinty minerals. Juicy, bright and gripping, in a more floral rather than fruity style currently, with substantial building tannins and high, lively acidity giving this a slightly austere quality at present. Finishes bright and long, with a youthful but noteworthy metallic edge and a strong note of violet; will it ever develop the fruit to rank along Salvioni’s many other great wines? One of the most backwards 2012 Brunellos I tasted this year, I’d forget about this in the cellar for another decade or so.”

“The 2011 Salvioni is a gorgeous showing which impresses with its remarkable elegance and purity. As this classically made Brunello slowly begins to unwind, it releases aromas of red cherries and dark plums which are woven together with intense fresh florals along with spices, black truffle, licorice and a subtle hint of smoke. On the palate this is beautifully structured with wonderful overall balance and precision. It offers an alluring fine, silky texture which carries on through the long lingering finish. The 2011 will require some additional bottle age, but overall it is an absolutely sensational effort by Giulio Salvioni and certainly amongst the top wines from the vintage (best 2019-2032).” - J.D.

“I absolutely love what the Salvioni family has created in this vintage. The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino La Cerbaiola is an unexpected wine. This beautiful expression shares very little with its peers. The wine achieves the signature style and elegance that is so unique to Salvioni despite the warm vintage. The results are ethereal and deep with classic aromas of dark fruits and spice. But the bouquet is unusual in that it also offers very sophisticated layers of pressed flowers, cloves, dusty mineral, and grilled rosemary. The tannins are enormously silky and polished. Hats off to Salvioni. In recent years, Salvioni has moved far behind its identity as a niche or cult producer in Montalcino. The brand is now regarded as one of the finest in the appellation despite its smaller size. The excellent 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is a landmark wine, but I was almost more impressed by the 2011 Brunello. Salvioni has made magic out of a difficult vintage and has successfully brought forth the most elegant and nuanced side of 2011. It is one of my favorite top three wines among the newly released Brunello annata wines.” - Monica Larner

“Aromas of wild berry, dark spice and a whiff of Mediterranean herb lead the way on this full-bodied red. The delicious palate delivers ripe strawberry, juicy black cherry, licorice and white pepper framed in firm, refined tannins. The ripe fruit seamlessly supports the hefty alcohol.”
