  • Score: 88 Vintage 2022 Wine Spectator A fruity style of Vermentino, revealing peach, grapefruit and hints of almond and chive for accent. Firms up with a tactile feel on the moderately long finish. Drink now. 1,000 cases made, 450 cases imported. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 87 Vintage 2022 Wine Advocate The hot-vintage Campo alle Comete 2022 Vermentino Albablu is a simple, stripped-down white wine with lemon, apple, quince and dried grass. There is one-dimensional fruit and not much in the way of floral intensity, but you can count on this wine for simple drinking pleasure thanks to those citrus-driven flavors. There is some bitter almond on the close. Some 30,000 bottles were made. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 86 Vintage 2022 James Suckling Another neutral white from Tuscany, a region almost bereft of intrigue when it comes to this color. A faint inflection of anise, dried herb and cantaloupe, before a meld of acidity and skinsy pucker carry modest length. Drink now. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 90 Vintage 2021 James Suckling A clean and juicy vermentino with aromas of white apricots, fresh pears, lemons, flowers and seashells. Medium-bodied with a refreshing saline hint. Drink now. Shelf Talker Full Page Review

  • Score: 90 Vintage 2021 Wine Advocate A new value submission from Campo alle Comete, the 2021 Vermentino Albablu is crisp and fragrant with white flower, almond blossom and unripe honeydew melon. This estate is owned by the folks in Campania's Feudi di San Gregorio, and boy do they know how to make a good bottle of entry-level white wine. Vermentino vines are planted in the flat part of the appellation at 50 meters above sea level where the limestone clay soils are quite loose and soft, allowing for good water absorption. Some 26,666 bottles were made. Drink this wine young and chilled. Antonio Capaldo and his team have added seven hectares of vines with newly planted Vermentino, Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Franc (bringing the total to about 20 hectares). These are three heat-resistant varietals that are more frequently planted along the Tuscan Coast today. Campo alle Comete was charging full steam ahead when I visited before COVID-19 and seems to have lost some momentum since then. The last Bolgheri Superiore I sampled was the 2017, and there have been team changes since then and changes to the planting scheme. But starting with the 2021 vintage, fruit from the excellent Torre di Donoratico vineyard started to go on-line. This site has excellent light and ventilation. I was lucky enough to visit this magnificent vineyard and am confident of its potential. That vineyard may just be the magic touch Campo alle Comete is waiting for. Let's wait and see. • Score: 90 Vintage 2020 James Suckling Magazine A floral, fruity white with citrus blossom, pear, melon and lemon curd on the nose. It’s medium-bodied with crisp acidity and a smooth, oily texture. Drink now. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 92 Vintage 2019 Wine Enthusiast Fragrant and savory, this opens with aromas of ripe yellow stone fruit, white spring flowers and citrus. Reflecting the nose, the tangy palate doles out juicy apricot, yellow peach, ginger and grapefruit before a bitter almond close. Crisp acidity lifts the rich flavors Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 90 Vintage 2019 Wine Advocate The Campo alle Comete 2019 Vermentino opens to a bright and sunny bouquet with honey, Golden Delicious apple, orchard fruit, ripe pear and a touch of sea salt. You could say that this wine shares DNA with the delicious white wines of Campania, as the owner of this estate also owns Feudi di San Gregorio in Avellino (southern Italy). This is an estate with enormous experience when it comes to making white wines. There are similarities here, especially in the mild creaminess of the mouthfeel and the way in which the wine spreads smoothly over the palate. This is a terrific Vermentino measured both in terms of fragrance and freshness. Some 25,000 bottles were made. Shelf Talker Full Page Review

  • Score: 89 Vintage 2018 Wine Enthusiast White spring-flower, yellow stone-fruit and almond aromas form the nose. On the bright palate, crisp acidity accompanies yellow peach and grapefruit before a saline finish. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 88 Vintage 2018 Wine Advocate It's funny how this wine shows some of the freshness and tonic intensity that you get with a Campania white. Maybe I'm thinking of Campania because that is the tasting I did immediately before this group of Bolgheri whites. It's also surely because Antonio Capaldo is the owner of this estate and Feudi di San Gregorio in Campania. The Campo alle Comete 2018 Vermentino is an easy expression to drink with fried calamari or insalata di mare. You taste the green zesty nature of the Tuscan grape on the close. Some 30,000 bottles were made. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 87 Vintage 2018 James Suckling Sliced green pears with lemons and apples. Medium body. Simple finish. Drink now. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 89 Vintage 2017 Wine Enthusiast Aromas of citrus blossom and white grapefruit lead the way on this savory white. The aromas follow over to the juicy palate together with apricot and a tangy hint of saline. KERIN O’KEEFE Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 87 Vintage 2017 Wine Advocate The 2017 Vermentino sees some lees contact to achieve extra structure and complexity. Two harvests are made to create this blend: one when the grapes are lighter in color and the other when the fruit is a golden yellow. There is about a ten-day difference between the two. The results here show a thin and streamlined approach with light citrus and dry grass. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
