• Score: 90 Vintage 2018 Vinous Media Darkly floral and rich in the glass, the 2018 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva Pergole Vece smolders up from the glass with a blend of sage and plum sauce complicated by hints of camphor and crushed stone. This is cool-toned and racy, with depths of opulently ripe wild berry fruits offset by a twang of dark chocolate and bitter clove. • Score: 92 Vintage 2017 Vinous Media The 2017 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Pergole Vece wafts up with blood orange and spice giving way to blackberries, currants and sweet herbs. It’s silky and staining with blue-tinged fruits and inner florals-like liquid extract, as dark chocolate and raspberry liqueur come through. There's so much depth here, as this seems almost salty in character. It’s incredibly long with a sweet flourish and unexpectedly fresh. The 2017 is so incredibly easy to like. • Score: 93 Vintage 2016 Wine Enthusiast This wine is filled with ripe blackberry, prune, dark chocolate, black cherries, cinnamon, clove and vanilla aromas. The palate is plump and juicy, with black cherries and chocolate leading the way. The wine is a giant on the palate with firm and fine tannins that will allow the wine to go the distance (2026–2035). • Score: 91 Vintage 2016 Vinous Media The 2016 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Pergole Vece is especially spry and lifted, offering smoky minerals, citrus-tinged blackberries and hints of confectioner’s spice. It keeps the energy high from start to finish, as silky textures gain momentum through juicy acids, giving way to medicinal cherries, minty herbs and a hint of bitter espresso bean. The 2016 doesn’t miss a beat, with a caking of fruit concentrate creating a sensation of tension under an air of sweet inner florals. • Score: 95 Vintage 2015 Wine Advocate The 2015 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Pergole Vece comes from a classic tradition and from a vintage that shows richness, generosity and exuberance. The blend is mostly Corvina and Corvinone (80% of the blend) with smaller parts Dindarella, Rondinella and Oseleta. The wine is made with five months of appassimento and provides a medium level of sweetness that adds to the volume and richness of the mouthfeel. The high 16.5% alcohol drives a powerful finish. This full-bodied Amarone with rich and dark concentration ages in barrique for 32 months, and you get plenty of spice and toasted smoke as a result. This is a very happy, fruit-filled vintage and the most robust wine in this flight. Serve it with braised meats. Only 5,000 bottles were made. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
• Score: 94 Vintage 2015 Wine and Spirits Franco Scamperle touts the 2015 growing season in Fumane as outstanding, and so were the conditions for drying the bunches in the months after harvest. The grapes for this wine lost half their original weight, concentrating the rich and savory flavors, laden with dried cherry, dark chocolate and pipe tobacco. The wine rested for 30 months in barriques of French and American oak, gaining powerful tannins to match the formidable 16.5 percent alcohol. • Score: 93 Vintage 2015 Vinous Media Clove, allspice, brown sugar, tobacco and dried black cherries rise up from the glass as the 2015 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Pergole Vece slowly comes to life. This is velvety and glycerol-like in texture, with ripe red fruits offset by minerals and a twang of bitter dark chocolate, creating a salty-sweet expression. A coating of concentrated raspberry and blackberry lingers, along with hints of sour citrus and framing tannins. The 2015 is just a baby today, and it will benefit from a few years of cellaring.
