Suhru Wines, of Long Island, was established in 2008 by winemaker Russell Hearn and his wife Susan Hearn. Suhru Wines was established as a result of Susan's love for wine. Her passion for wine has developed throughout her life with her husband, winemaker Russell Hearn. Russell introduced her to fine wines and together they have traveled to many of the world's wine regions. Russell began his winemaking career in Australia. He worked in Burgundy, before beginning his career in the US.
They moved to Long Island in 1990, when Russell started working as a consultant for several Long Island wineries. He became the winemaker at Pellegrini in 1992, prior to its first harvest. In 2000, Russell started Premium Wine Group, the only custom crush facility on the east coast, which is now the home of Suhru Wines. Their goal is to produce easy and approachable wines including crisp whites and fruit forward reds. Russell has made a career in the wine industry, but for Susan it has been a more gradual awakening to a love of the industry.
Susan states, “I cannot image a year without the excitement of the growing season and the incredible aromas in the winery during harvest. Every month something new and exciting is happening.” It started as a labor of love for Russell and Susan, but has now become a family affair. Their daughters Shelby and Kylie worked the 2012 harvest at the winery, and are now involved in marketing, promotion, and vineyard practices.
