In 1984, Rita Tua and Virgilio Bisti bought land in the Tuscan Maremma near Suvereto. Their dedication transformed Tua Rita into a leader in Italy’s “garage wine” revolution. Over decades, Tua Rita’s vineyard expanded from 5 to 22, then 50 by the early 2000s, and finally 160 acres. The vineyards cover approximately 160 acres, situated at an altitude of 320 to 490 feet above sea level, with various
exposures on the sunny hills. The focus is primarily on international grape varieties, including Cabernet
Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Petit Verdot, Chardonnay, Traminer, and Riesling, but there are also local varieties such as Vermentino, Ansonica, and Sangiovese.
Tua Rita’s success in the vineyard and cellar was driven by the passion of Rita and Virgilio, but its image and marketing flourished thanks to Stefano Frascolla, Simena’s husband.
After Virgilio’s passing in 2010, Stefano took on a leading role in managing the winery, ensuring its continued growth. In 2020, the next generation stepped in, with Giovanni Frascolla, son of Simena and Stefano, taking the helm and bringing a fresh vision.
