Sicily At a Glance
Region NameSicily
Sicily is Italy’s southernmost region and the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. For more than 2500 years, Sicily (Sicilia in Italian) has been a significant center of Mediterranean viniculture, although the reputation and style of its wines have changed significantly over that time.
Score: 90Vintage 2020Wine EnthusiastCertified vegan, this bright, savory white offers aromas of lime, white spring flowers and Mediterranean herbs. On the refreshing, tangy palate, crisp acidity accompanies juicy pink grapefruit, orange zest and peach before a salty finish.Shelf TalkerFull Page Review
Score: 89Vintage 2019Vinous MediaThe 2019 Grillo Sicilia holds your attention with a display of savory spice, sour melon, dusty yellow flowers and an enriching note of custard. It’s soft with almost oily textures, backed by juicy acids and ripe orchard fruits. Although a bit one-dimensional, it finishes wonderfully fresh and clean under an air of tropical florals. This spends four months refining in acacia barrels, followed by three months in stainless steel. Important to note is that Colosi has another Grillo Sicilia in their portfolio with a different label, bottled under screw cap and matured completely in stainless steel, yet without any difference in the name or DOC designation.Shelf TalkerFull Page Review

Score: 88Vintage 2018Wine AdvocatePreviously an IGT Terre Siciliane wine, this white made with the Grillo grape is now part of the Sicilia DOC. The Cantine Colosi 2018 Sicilia Grillo has its own feisty character. It opens to a medium golden color and offers aromas of stone fruit, poached pear and baked apple. There are points of saffron and sweet baking spice as well. Aged in acacia tonneaux for a brief four months, this wine is designed to reveal a good amount of that elusive Grillo complexity. Examine those esoteric details alongside a simple pasta fagiolini. Some 14,000 bottles were made.Shelf TalkerFull Page Review
