Campania At a Glance

Region Name Campania

Like many Italian regions, Campania is home to an impressive array of grape varieties, some found almost nowhere else on earth. Its most important variety is arguably Aglianico, the grape behind the region’s two most famous and respected red wines: Taurasi and Aglianico del Taburno.

  • Score: 92 Vintage 2021 James Suckling This has an attractive nose of papayas, nectarines, hazelnuts, white chocolate and oranges. Some sage. It’s medium-to full-bodied with a creamy, ripe texture. Ripe fruit balanced by vibrant acidity. Delicious now. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 91 Vintage 2021 Wine Advocate The 2021 Core Bianco is a blend of equal parts Fiano and Greco, the pearl and the diamond atop a crown of Campania white grapes. This wine shows soft creaminess, just a touch, with supple flavors of orchard fruit, lemon meringue, papaya and a hint of sea salt. Winemaking is in stainless steel only, so that pretty texture comes directly from the well-ripened fruit and calcareous clay soils. This vintage is especially bright and balanced. 20,000 bottles were released. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 90 Vintage 2021 Vinous Media The 2021 Bianco Core is sweetly seductive with a burst of ripe peach, minty herbs and almond paste. This is soft-textured, nearly glycerol in feel, traversing ripe orchard fruits and saline minerals to create a wine full of contrasts. It finishes with a salty flourish and citrus-derived tension yet completely refreshes the palate. The Core Bianco is an equal-part blend of Fiano and Greco that’s refined for just four months in stainless steel tanks. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 93 Vintage 2020 James Suckling Enticing fruit-cocktail nose with a lemony twist, as well as some honey and meadow flowers. Medium-bodied with intense, super clean fruit flavors and a delicious finish. So well balanced. Enjoy now. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 90 Vintage 2020 Wine Spectator A creamy white, with juicy yellow apple and pear fruit laced with hints of vanilla, verbena, anise and toast. • Score: 92 Vintage 2019 James Suckling Papaya, pear, lemon-curd and some white-pepper notes here. It’s medium-to full-bodied with a gently oily texture and crisp acidity. Zesty finish. Drink now. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 89 Vintage 2019 Wine Spectator Pretty spice, honeysuckle and juicy melon notes are backed by a tang of salinity and hints of chopped hazelnut in this round, balanced and light- to medium-bodied white. Fresh, crunchy finish. Fiano and Greco. Drink now. 1,000 cases made, 200 cases imported. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 89 Vintage 2019 Vinous Media The 2019 Bianco Core, an equal-parts blend of Fiano and Greco, shows sweet white flowers with peach skins and hints of raw almond. It’s soft, almost weighty in feel with a pleasant inner sweetness, yet nicely balanced by a mix of bright acids and sour citrus. This leaves tart orchard fruits, nuances of lime and salty minerals to linger incredibly long. As enjoyable as the 2020 Core is today, another year of cellaring will unlock further depths.
