In the northernmost reaches of Italy, close to the Austrian border, the dramatic landscape is a fitting backdrop to one of the world’s most important wine-producing areas.
Score: 92Vintage 2019Vinous MediaThe 2019 Gruner Veltliner is a deep golden color in the glass. Crushed almond, lemon custard and brown spice form its rich bouquet. This is silky-smooth and potent yet with racy acidity to balance. Citrus-tinged orchard fruits give way to sweet inner florals. It finishes long and with a reverberation of tension that stimulates the senses with hints of candied lime. This powerful and intense Gruner may be thrilling to taste today but should also mature beautifully over the medium term.Shelf TalkerFull Page Review
Score: 91Vintage 2019Wine AdvocateShowing flinty or ashy notes on first nose, the Strasserhof Alto Adige Valle Isarco Grüner Veltliner opens slowly to reveal delicate primary notes of lemon, honeydew melon and crisp apple. The wine is lean in terms of mouthfeel and shorter compared to the other white grapes cultivated by this excellent winery. However, this Grüner Veltliner is faithful to its varietal personality and to its high-altitude Dolomitic territory.Shelf TalkerFull Page Review
