Campania At a Glance

Region Name Campania

Like many Italian regions, Campania is home to an impressive array of grape varieties, some found almost nowhere else on earth. Its most important variety is arguably Aglianico, the grape behind the region’s two most famous and respected red wines: Taurasi and Aglianico del Taburno.

  • Score: 91 Vintage 2018 James Suckling Aromas of dark fruit, plums, meat and mushrooms follow through to a medium to full body with layers of fruit and a juicy finish. A little tannic now, but will soften nicely. Drink or hold. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 92 Vintage 2017 James Suckling Excellent freshness and composure to this red with notes of citrus and strawberries. Tightly strung with tense acidity and firm tannins. Mineral, zesty finish. Drink now. Shelf Talker Full Page Review

This is a fine, balanced sipper, with hints of grilled herb and spice accenting the finish. Drink now. 1,000 cases made, 210 cases imported. Shelf Talker Full Page Review

  • Score: 88 Vintage 2017 Vinous Media The nose in the 2017 Lacryma Christi del Vesuvio Rosso is dark and surprisingly rich, showing masses of crushed blackberry, backed by sweet brown spices, with hints of sage, menthol, and purple floral tones. On the palate, soft, dense textures flood the senses with ripe black fruits and peppery florals, yet I’m craving more depth here, as brisk acids carry the 2017 Lacryma Christi del Vesuvio Rosso across the senses. The finish is medium in length and ‘grapey’, showing hints of tannin beneath purple florals and a hint of sweet spice. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 88 Vintage 2017 Wine Advocate The 2017 Lacryma Christi Vesuvio Rosso is a plump, ready and accessible wine. It opens to medium color saturation and shows ripe aromas of cassis and wild raspberry. Those aromas do reflect the softness and sweetness of the hot and dry 2017 growing season. This is a simple red wine, but this vintage has the heft and power to stand up to pork roast or porchetta. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
