Basque Moonshiners is a craft distillery based in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Álava, in the Basque Country. The company was founded in 2014 and launched its first product in 2015. Basque Moonshiners is a craft producer focused on authentic spirits made in small batches from local raw materials.
Philosophy
Basque Moonshiners works in small batches, with the stated aim of prioritizing quality over quantity. The company’s philosophy is built around authenticity, transparency, craftsmanship, and the idea of following an individual path, expressed through its slogan “Follow Yourself.”
Signature
A defining element of the distillery is the use of local potatoes and cereals. Basmoon Vodka is made from Agria potatoes grown in Álava, while the whisky production uses malted grain. The distillery produces its own alcohol from local raw materials rather than relying simply on purchased neutral spirits.
Team
Carlos Ortiz de Zárate is the Master Distiller, with Eduardo Martínez de Murguía responsible for strategic marketing, Lalo Antón as partner/board member, and José Luis Navarro as Managing Director. The company has four partners and two additional employees in production and administration.
