Cantina Azul

Overview

Estate

Cantina Azul is a tequila brand created by Brian Williams and Bill Driggs, inspired by their shared appreciation for Mexico, its culture, and traditions. The idea originated at a small Mexican restaurant in South Glastonbury, Connecticut, a local cantina called Saulyita, affectionately known by its community as “The Little Blue House.” The blue house became the inspiration for the brand’s identity and logo, which serves as a tribute to the place where the idea began.

Founders

Bill Driggs spent 19 years creating and developing several successful restaurants, while Brian Williams spent more than 20 years managing multiple bar programs in San Diego and Connecticut. Both founders traveled extensively throughout Mexico, developing a strong appreciation for the country’s culture and traditions. Their shared experience in restaurants, bars, and hospitality ultimately led them to create their own tequila brand.

Origin

The idea for Cantina Azul began in South Glastonbury, Connecticut, but the tequila itself is produced in Tequila, Jalisco, Mexico, in the heart of the region historically associated with tequila production. This connection between its American origins and Mexican production is an important part of its identity.

Philosophy

Cantina Azul's tequila is made without additives and was developed with sustainability in mind. The tequila is crafted by progressive leaders in the tequila industry, combining respect for Mexico's traditions and culture with a contemporary approach to tequila production. The philosophy behind Cantina Azul extends beyond the tequila itself. The brand was inspired by a place that brought people together, and the founders describe the tequila as being created in that same spirit. Its purpose is therefore closely connected to hospitality, friendship, sharing and bringing people together.

Brand design

The Cantina Azul logo is a direct homage to Saulyita / “The Little Blue House,” the restaurant in South Glastonbury where the brand's original idea was born. The logo is intended not only as a visual reference to that place, but also as a reminder of the ideas and values that inspired the founders’ journey.
