The Antica Distilleria Domenico Sibona is situated in the Roero area, in the district of Piobesi d’Alba, just a few miles from Alba. It’s one of the oldest distilleries in the Piedmont region and can boast the earliest distillation license, No. 1, issued by UTF (the official agency that oversees all activities related to distilleries).
Production
Sibona distillery crafts its “grappas” from single-vine varieties, distilling fresh marc upon arrival. The distillery selects top regional marc, ensuring quality through careful distillation, upgraded equipment, and the expertise of two oenologists. Removing the initial and final distillate cuts and aging in barrels make the grappas soft, complex, and aromatic.
Grappa's origin
Brandy in Piedmont was first mentioned in a 1443 customs document. It wasn’t called ‘grappa’ then, as the term only appeared in Italy later; instead, it was called the dialectal ‘branda'. This shows Piedmont as one of Italy’s oldest, noblest brandy producers.
