Gouguenheim

Overview
Estate
Gouguenheim Winery is a family winery in Tupungato, Valle de Uco, Mendoza, Argentina. It was founded by Patricio Gouguenheim in 2002. Patricio was born in Argentina to French parents. After a career in finance, he decided to enter wine and established the family winery in Tupungato. The project remains family-run, with his sons Gonzalo and Santiago involved in the business.
Climate
The vineyards lie at approximately 3,937–4,593 feet above sea level at the foothills of the Andes. Intense sunlight, cool nights, low rainfall, and strong diurnal variation promote slow ripening, thick skins, and exceptional aromatic purity.
Soil
Alluvial soils of limestone, gravel, sand, and stone deposits originating from the Andes. The high calcium carbonate content of Gualtallary contributes tension, minerality, and precision, particularly in Malbec and Cabernet Franc.
Vineyards
Estate vineyards are planted primarily to Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah, and Chardonnay. High-density plantings and altitude-driven viticulture allow the winery to produce wines of concentration balanced by freshness.
Cultivation
Sustainable vineyard management is essential due to the desert climate. Controlled irrigation from Andean snowmelt, canopy management, and careful parcel selection are used to optimize fruit quality and site expression.
Winery
Modern winemaking facilities combine temperature-controlled fermentation, parcel vinification, and selective oak aging. The objective is to preserve the purity of high-altitude fruit while enhancing structure and aging potential.
Family
Gouguenheim Winery was conceived by Patricio Gouguenheim as a family business. Patricio was born in Argentina to French parents and developed his interest in wine from childhood. His sons subsequently joined the project. The winery's own story describes the family as working together across generations.
Winemaker
The technical team follows a terroir-driven philosophy focused on altitude, limestone soils, and varietal precision. Particular emphasis is placed on Malbec as the most authentic interpreter of the estate’s mountain terroir.
