Hundred Suns

Overview

Estate

Hundred Suns Wine is a small family-owned winery founded in 2015 by Grant Coulter and Renée Saint-Amour in Oregon's Willamette Valley. The project is built around a grower-focused model, sourcing fruit from vineyard owners they know and trust while also farming their own 4.5-acre estate property in the Eola-Amity Hills. The winery is currently based in McMinnville, with its production facility in the city's Industrial Hub.

Climate

Hundred Suns works across several Willamette Valley AVAs, including Ribbon Ridge, McMinnville, Dundee Hills, and Eola-Amity Hills. The sites are cool-climate, maritime-influenced vineyards where elevation, exposure, and the interaction of Pacific weather with the Coast Range shape ripening. The winery's name refers to the approximately 100 days between flowering and harvest, reflecting its focus on the region's relatively short growing season.

Soil

The portfolio intentionally spans different Willamette Valley soil types. Sequitur Vineyard in Ribbon Ridge is planted on marine sedimentary Willakenzie soils. Lone Feather Vineyard in the Dundee Hills is rooted in iron-rich Jory volcanic soils. Breaker Vineyard in the Eola-Amity Hills has weathered basalt, with Nekia silty clay and Gelderman soils. Bednarik Vineyard sits on an older hillside site and contributes own-rooted Pommard and Wädenswil Pinot Noir.

Vineyards

Hundred Suns works with a number of distinctive vineyards. Sequitur Vineyard in Ribbon Ridge was planted in 2012–2013 at 425 feet and contains a broad collection of Pinot Noir clones. Lone Feather is a 40-acre Dundee Hills estate planted in 2000 and farmed organically and dry-farmed. Bednarik Vineyard is a six-acre site planted in 1988 at 350 feet, with own-rooted Pommard and Wädenswil clones. Breaker Vineyard is the family's 4-acre Eola-Amity Hills property at approximately 545–590 feet elevation; historic vines were removed due to disease pressure, and the site has been replanted. The winery also works with other selected growers across the valley.

Cultivation

Hundred Suns' philosophy begins with relationships with growers who share its quality and environmental values. The winery describes its own vineyard work as hands-on and its grower partners as people who farm with care for the land. Documented examples include organic and dry farming at Lone Feather and organic farming at Bednarik. The family's Eola-Amity Hills estate is farmed directly by Grant and Re

Winery

Hundred Suns makes wines with minimal manipulation, using indigenous yeast and native malolactic bacteria and avoiding unnatural additives. The cellar approach varies by vineyard and vintage, with experiments in fermentation and aging intended to accentuate site character. Current tastings take place in the small warehouse winery in McMinnville and are personally hosted by Grant or Renée.

Family

Grant Coulter and Renée Saint-Amour founded Hundred Suns together in 2015 after moving from Portland to the Willamette Valley. Grant brought a decade of experience at Beaux Frères, first as assistant winemaker and later as head winemaker, while Renée transitioned from teaching to cellar work and the day-to-day operation of Hundred Suns. The business remains intentionally small and family-run, with both partners involved across winemaking, vineyard work, sales, and administration.

Winemaker

Grant Coulter is the winemaker and oversees the vineyards. His Oregon career began at Hamacher Wines and continued for 10 years at Beaux Frères, where he progressed from assistant winemaker to head winemaker. He later oversaw vineyards and winemaking for Flâneur Wines before focusing fully on Hundred Suns. Renée Saint-Amour works alongside him in the cellar and leads sales, marketing, and business operations.

Focus Point

• Family-owned Willamette Valley winery founded in 2015. • Small-scale, grower-focused production. • Indigenous yeast and native malolactic bacteria. • Minimal-intervention philosophy and no unnatural additives. • Detailed site expression through whole-cluster, amphora and barrel experimentation.
