Larcherhof

Overview
Estate
Since 1893, the Egger-Spögler family has operated this 16th-century farmstead, which has preserved centuries of history. Living proof of this heritage are the impressive Lagrein vines, over 100 years old, and the historic cellar.
Climate
The climate is nearly Mediterranean and temperate, with cold winters (minimum temperatures dropping below freezing) and hot, sunny summers, sometimes extremely hot with temperatures exceeding 86 °F. Rainfall is limited, with a summer peak often marked by thunderstorms and a winter low with little rain or snow.
Soil
The vineyard soils are highly diverse, mainly consisting of clayey, sandy, and gravelly soils on a porphyry base, formed from morainic debris and alluvial sediments.
The sunny slopes, often facing south, which, due to the soil composition and temperature fluctuations, are perfect for cultivating Schiava and Lagrein grapes.
Vineyards
Various grape varieties are grown using natural and sustainable methods on a 5-hectare estate.
The vineyards surrounding the farm are part of the traditional Santa Maddalena cultivation. The vines, which are over 70 years old, give an extraordinary aromatic richness. Lagrein is the main grape variety of the Larcher farm.
Cultivation
Careful management of the vines and soil, along with thoughtful harvest selection, ensures high-quality grapes. The vineyards are farmed in an ecological and natural manner. No herbicides or fungicides are applied. The training systems are pergola and guyot.
Winery
The old cellar dates back to the 17th century. Events and tastings are frequently held here. Since the 2014 harvest, wine production has been taking place in the newly built cellar.
Family
Hildegard Egger Spögler currently manages the winery. Her son Hans is deeply committed to the vineyards and wine-making. Along with his wife Katharina, he’s the official representative of Larcherhof worldwide.
Winemaker
Hans Spögler continues the family tradition. Since 2008, he has been making and bottling his own wines, genuine expressions of the region and various grape varieties.
