Ottella

Overview

Estate

Ottella is a space created to nurture the ideas of Michele and Francesco Montresor, along with the people who work with them every day. It emphasizes sharing as a core value: welcoming friends and admirers to share in their passion for their work and the emotions that come from living each day surrounded by wine, art, and nature.

Climate

The lake’s proximity and its temperate breezes strongly shape the area’s microclimate, which remains mild and stable, with small day-to-night temperature swings. It’s a perfect “climatic cradle” for enhancing the qualities of a specific grape like Turbiana.

Soil

The Lugana area has layered white clay from morainic sediment, rich in minerals and calcareous.

Vineyards

The Lugana area, where Ottella wines are produced, borders Lake Garda’s southern shore, with gentle morainic hills surrounding the lake. Ottella’s 90 hectares of vineyards are planted in prime locations in Peschiera del Garda, Desenzano, Pozzolengo, and Sirmione, enhancing the landscape’s beauty.

Cultivation

Ottella uses respectful agronomic methods, avoiding pesticides and herbicides. Pest control relies on integrated systems and sexual confusion. Grass between rows enriches the soil, and irrigation is used sparingly with drip systems to prevent dispersion.

Winery

This sustainable vineyard approach includes measures such as recycling water and installing a photovoltaic system that supplies 70% of the energy. Ottella’s efforts earned it Equalitas certification. The company also emphasizes employee well-being, providing natural-light workspaces amid greenery, such as the bottling area overlooking hydrangeas.

Family

The Montresor family has led Ottella for four generations. Founded by Lodovico, a wine entrepreneur and art collector, the company gained momentum in the mid-1980s when Francesco, fresh from law school, joined. Francesco, who served as president of the Prosecco Protection Consortium from 2007 to 2013, was joined in 1993 by Michele, now president of the Veneto Winegrowers’ Association. Lodovico and Lamberto work with their father and uncle at the winery.

Winemaker

Domenico Mazzotta was joined by the young Lodovico Montresor, who represents the family's new generation.

Focus Point

• Deep respect for the land. • Passion for art. • Family-owned business.
