Camporè

Overview
Estate
The estate is partly in Contrada San Lorenzo and partly in Contrada Campo Re, from which the project takes its name. Contrada Campo Re was named after King Peter III of Aragon, who camped nearby following the Sicilian Vespers of 1282, which expelled the Angevins. The estate, previously owned by a noble Sicilian family, was taken over by the Madaudo family in 2016.
Climate
The climate of Randazzo is marked by significant day-to-night temperature variation, warm, sunny days, and cool nights, driven by its altitude and proximity to Mount Etna. These conditions enable slow, balanced grape ripening, preserving freshness, aromatic precision, and acidity.
Soil
The soils are entirely volcanic, rich in lava rock, ash, minerals, and sandy components. These highly draining soils contribute to wines with pronounced minerality, elegance, and tension.
Vineyards
At the northwestern end of the Doc Etna area, between the districts of San Lorenzo and Campo Rè, the estate's vineyards extend over 8 hectares at 2,480 feet above sea level, on ancient volcanic soils. The original vineyard of Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccino, planted in the mid-1900s, has recently been joined by a modern planting of native white grapes: Carricante and Catarratto.
Cultivation
Viticulture is practiced with great respect for the environment and Etna's volcanic ecosystem. Vineyard work is largely manual because of the steep slopes and terraced landscape. Yields are carefully controlled to enhance concentration, balance, and territorial expression.
Winery
The new winery, integrated into the Etnean landscape on the Camporè estate in contrada San Lorenzo, combines innovation and tradition amid vines and ancient olive groves, highlighting our environmental commitment. Designed with local materials and sustainable techniques, it reflects our belief in preserving and enhancing the land for future generations.
Family
Maria Pia Madaudo, together with her sister Cristina, embarked on the ambitious project of returning to the fief and the ancient millstone, restoring the place's original value as a site designed and organized for wine production. The two young entrepreneurs, drawing on their ten-year family experience in the wine sector and the precious advice handed down by their grandfather, which they have kept and implemented, have decided to combine their passion for wine with the Etna area.
Winemaker
Camporè benefits from the consulting expertise of Enrico Paternoster, a respected figure in Etna and mountain viticulture. His approach enhances the purity of the volcanic terroir through precise, elegant winemaking, preserving freshness, minerality, and the authentic identity of Etna's native grape varieties.
