Castello dei Rampolla

Overview
Estate
Founded in the 1960s by Alceo di Napoli Rampolla in Panzano in Chianti, Castello dei Rampolla became one of Tuscany’s most influential estates under Maurizia and Luca di Napoli Rampolla. The property spans about 42 hectares, including vineyards, olive groves, and woodland surrounding the historic villa.
Climate
Located in the Conca d’Oro of Panzano, one of Chianti Classico’s most prestigious amphitheaters. High elevations, constant ventilation, and significant diurnal shifts favor slow ripening and exceptional aromatic definition.
Soil
Predominantly alberese and galestro with limestone-rich formations. These well-drained soils contribute structure, mineral tension, and longevity, particularly in Sangiovese-based wines.
Vineyards
Around 30 hectares of vineyards are planted mainly with Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. Parcels are managed individually, with some of the oldest vines contributing to the flagship wines Sammarco and d’Alceo.
Cultivation
A pioneer of organic farming since the 1990s and of biodynamic practices since 1994. Synthetic chemicals have been abandoned in favor of natural preparations, biodiversity, and holistic vineyard management.
Winery
One of Tuscany’s earliest advocates of gravity-flow winemaking. Fermentations rely on indigenous yeasts and minimal intervention, with aging tailored to each wine to preserve vineyard identity rather than impose a house style.
Family
Today, the estate is led by siblings Maurizia and Luca di Napoli Rampolla, who continue their father Alceo's vision, combining innovation, environmental stewardship, and a strong philosophical approach to viticulture.
Winemaker
Luca di Napoli Rampolla. Internationally recognized for introducing biodynamics to Chianti Classico and for creating some of Tuscany’s most distinctive Bordeaux-inspired wines.
