Corte dei Papi

Overview
Estate
Corte dei Papi estate covers about 190 hectares between the towns of Paliano and Anagni in the heart of the Cesanese del Piglio D.O.C.G. production area.
Climate
The vineyards of Corte dei Papi enjoy a temperate climate with warm, dry summers and significant day-night temperature changes during ripening. These shifts promote even grape maturation, preserving freshness, aroma, and balance, which define the estate’s wines.
Soil
The vineyards of Corte dei Papi sit on gently rolling hills shaped by ancient karst erosion. The soils are predominantly red, derived from calcareous formations, with an argillaceous-silty texture and good mineral richness. These soils contribute to the wines' structure, freshness and distinctive character.
Vineyards
The vineyards of Corte dei Papi span 25 hectares on the gentle hills between Anagni and Paliano. The estate grows both red and white grape varieties, including Cesanese d’Affile, Cesanese Comune, Passerina, Malvasia Istriana, and Sauvignon Blanc.
Cultivation
The vineyards are trained using a bilateral spurred cordon, with alternate-row grassing and careful canopy management. Green pruning and thinning are performed to control yields and promote uniform grape ripening. Harvesting is done by hand, with grapes picked in the early morning to take advantage of the significant day-night temperature variations.
Winery
The winery renovated a former sheepfold, keeping its character and using local materials. The cellar features thermal insulation and systems to control light and humidity. Fermentation happens in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks, with aging in stainless-steel and wooden vessels, including barrel-aged cru wines to enhance aroma and sense of place.
Family
Corte dei Papi was founded in 2004 by the Di Cosimo family, who are entrepreneurs committed to agriculture and winemaking. Now owned by Antonio Di Cosimo, the estate blends respect for local agricultural heritage with modern winemaking, maintaining a strong link to Anagni's history and culture.
Winemaker
Giancarlo Berti is the winemaker at Corte dei Papi, overseeing the estate’s winemaking and vineyard management. His work focuses on expressing the character of the local terroir, combining traditional practices with modern winemaking technology.
