Fattoria del Cerro

Estate

Fattoria del Cerro is the largest private estate dedicated to Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, spanning over 600 hectares, including approximately 180 hectares of vineyards. The estate takes its name from the centuries-old Turkey Oak (Cerro) that dominates the property and is one of Tuscany’s most significant wine-growing realities.

Climate

Located on the hills of Acquaviva di Montepulciano between 820 and 1,148 feet a.s.l., the estate enjoys warm daytime temperatures, good ventilation, and significant seasonal variation, ensuring full phenolic ripening of Prugnolo Gentile while preserving freshness.

Soil

The vineyards are planted in marine-derived soils rich in clay, sand, and fossil deposits. These conditions are particularly well-suited to Prugnolo Gentile, contributing structure, aromatic complexity, and longevity to the wines.

Vineyards

Approximately 180 hectares under vine, making it one of the largest vineyard holdings within the denomination. Vineyard parcels are managed separately, and the Antica Chiusina cru represents the estate’s flagship expression of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano.

Cultivation

Precision viticulture combines parcel selection, canopy management, and sustainable farming practices. Particular attention is given to matching rootstocks and clones to the diverse soil profiles across the estate.

Winery

The winery combines modern vinification technology with extensive aging facilities. Separate vinification of vineyard parcels supports a terroir-focused approach and enables greater precision in producing Vino Nobile and single-vineyard selections.

As part of the Saiagricola Group, Fattoria del Cerro has played a leading role in the modern development and international promotion of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano.
