Gagliole

Overview
Estate
Gagliole was founded in the 1990s by the Swiss Bär family and is now divided between two complementary estates: the original property in Castellina in Chianti and the historic in Panzano. The project has become one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary Chianti Classico.
Climate
The combination of Castellina’s cooler elevations and Panzano’s renowned Conca d’Oro creates a unique climatic mosaic. Significant diurnal variation, excellent exposure, and constant airflow favor aromatic precision and refined tannin development.
Soil
The vineyards are rooted in classic Chianti Classico soils of galestro, alberese, and limestone-rich soils. The geological contrast between Castellina and Panzano adds complexity and depth to the estate’s wines.
Vineyards
Approximately 20 hectares of vineyards are planted predominantly with Sangiovese. Historic parcels in Petroio form the backbone of Gallule and Rubiolo, while carefully selected sites are dedicated to the flagship wines Gagliole and Pecchia.
Cultivation
Organic farming with meticulous parcel management and a strong emphasis on biodiversity. Vineyard decisions are guided by site expression rather than by production volume.
Winery
The modern cellar was designed for precision and gravity-assisted movement. Fermentations are managed on a parcel-by-parcel basis, allowing each vineyard to retain its individual identity throughout aging.
Family
Owned by the Bär family, whose long-term vision transformed Gagliole from a small Chianti project into an internationally respected estate dedicated to terroir-driven Sangiovese.
Winemaker
Giulio Carmassi. His philosophy combines precision viticulture with restrained winemaking to achieve elegance, site expression, and a contemporary interpretation of Sangiovese.
Focus Point
• Dual-estate identity between Castellina and Panzano.
• Focus on Sangiovese.
• Organic farming.
• Parcel-driven vinification.
