Maso Poli

Overview
Estate
Maso Poli is a family-run farm in the hills of Lavis, north of Trento. The estate spans roughly 37 acres, of which about 24.7 acres are dedicated to vineyards. The property includes a historic 18th-century “maso” (stone farmhouse) that was carefully renovated in the early 2000s to blend traditional rural architecture with modern, minimalist design, in harmony with the surrounding landscape.
Climate
The estate’s ideal location at around 1640 feet in elevation offers excellent sunlight, protection from cold winds, and a continental alpine climate with temperature fluctuations. This environment enhances grape aromas, preserves freshness and acidity, and maintains healthy vineyards through constant ventilation.
Soil
The vineyards are situated on deep, well-drained soils of morainic and alluvial origin with good clay content. These soils are ideally suited in terms of altitude and composition, and the elevation, rich in limestone and porphyry, imparts the wines with pronounced minerality and structure—distinctive features of the Trentino terroir.
Vineyards
The vineyards encircle the winery and farmhouse. The grapes are carefully tended and harvested exclusively by hand. The main varieties include Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Nosiola (a native grape), Pinot Grigio, Gewürztraminer, Riesling, Teroldego, and Lagrein.
Cultivation
The company practices sustainable viticulture, minimizing chemical use and favoring natural methods such as sexual confusion to combat pests and using rose bushes as natural alarms. It preserves biodiversity and soil health through natural cultivation, integrated pest control, and grassing without herbicides. The training system is the Trentino pergola and Guyot.
Winery
The winery is designed to be functional and efficient, combining traditional and modern techniques for handling grapes and wine to minimize stress on the product. Grapes from different vineyards are processed separately to preserve their unique qualities before blending. Partly underground, the winery uses natural temperature regulation to support fermentation in temperature-controlled tanks and aging in medium-toasted French oak barrels in the barrel cellar.
Family
The Togn family owns the company, which was first managed by Luigi Togn, a pioneer in Italian and Trentino wine who died in 2022. He revitalized the vineyards in the 1970s, emphasizing quality over quantity. Today, Romina, Martina, and Valentina Togn, representing the new Trentino viticulture, carry on his legacy. They lead with a strong connection to Trentino and a blend of tradition and innovation.
Their philosophy is to give wine ‘soul,’ tying it to the land through craftsmanship, sustainability, and emotion.
Winemaker
Goffredo Pasolli is the head winemaker with extensive experience in Italy, including Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Tuscany, and joined Maso Poli in the 1990s. Known for innovative vineyard techniques such as thinning bunches for uniform ripening, he balances technical precision with creativity. He promotes plot selection, cold maceration, and gentle extraction to produce elegant, mineral-driven, long-lasting wines.
