Tenuta Luisa

Overview
Estate
Tenuta Luisa in Corona, Mariano del Friuli, has a nearly hundred-year history, starting when Francesco Luisa bought 5 hectares of vineyards in 1927. Now, it spans 110 hectares, managed by brothers Michele, an oenologist, and Davide, an agronomist, in memory of their father Eddi. The family-owned winery continues its century-old legacy.
Climate
The area where Tenuta Luisa is located has a typical Mediterranean microclimate characterized by cool, dry winds that come from the East, allowing for a comfortable temperature range and increased solar radiation. These conditions lead to slower and more even ripening of the grapes, resulting in grapes with balanced structure and acidity and complex, layered bouquets.
Soil
The calcareous soil with red gravel and ferruginous layers creates a decalcified surface that forms red earth, rich in iron hydrates, retaining rainwater and fertilizers. This structure uniquely influences the wines’ qualities.
Vineyards
The vineyards cover a northeast Italy border region between Slovenia, Austria, and the Julian Alps, known for viticulture since before Roman times and earning DOC status in 1974. The area features a gently sloping plateau from Collio and Carso hills toward the Adriatic Sea, shaped by a river that influences the land through its flow, floods, erosion, and gravel deposits from melting snow.
Cultivation
Over the years, vineyard management has become more meticulous with pruning, shoot selection, leaf removal, cluster thinning, and grape sorting. At Tenuta Luisa, sustainability is a priority, earning certifications SQNPI and Diversity Ark. The training system used is Guyot or double cappuccino.
Winery
The winery is a home where innovative winemaking blends with ancient farming. It has a steel tank section for the classic line and a barrel cellar with 5 and 7.5-hectoliter tonneaux for reserves. The spaces are designed for efficient grape transformation and wine processing in a warm, welcoming environment surrounded by lush vineyards.
Family
The first vines were planted in Corona by Francesco Luisa in 1927. The cultivation of the vineyards and wine production continued with his son Delciso. But it was his grandson Eddy, along with his wife Nella, who created a modern company that is now recognized and valued in Italy and around the world. The estate is now managed by their sons, Michele and Davide, with the fifth generation already beginning to leave its mark.
Winemaker
Michele Luisa graduated as a wine technician from the Agricultural Technical Institute of Cividale del Friuli. In 1998, he earned the title of Winemaker. Due to his father’s serious health issues, he started helping him in the winery as a young boy, even before graduating. His focus has always been to preserve the naturalness of the grapes as much as possible to create a healthy and elegant wine that reflects the love he puts into it.
