  • Score: 97 Vintage 2020 Jeb Dunnuck On the nose alone, the 2020 Castello del Terriccio stands out as one of the most compelling wines of my tasting. Based on 70% Syrah and 30% Petit Verdot, it offers intense aromatics of menthol, eucalyptus oil, black cherry, rosemary, and wildflowers. Full-bodied, it is pure and saline, with ripe fruit, refreshing acidity, and a long, resonant finish. This is a showstopper in the range and is singular in its identity. Drink 2026-2046. • Score: 96 Vintage 2019 James Suckling Currant and berry character with subtle aromas of spearmint, sage, rosemary and flowers. Medium-bodied with refined tannins and light sandalwood undertones. It’s crisp and refined with a graceful finish. So delicious already, but will age beautifully. Best ever. Syrah and petit verdot. Drink or hold. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 95 Vintage 2019 Jeb Dunnuck Still quite closed at this stage, the 2019 Castello del Terriccio displays a more inward profile, with compact notes of Amarena cherry, blood orange, refined spice, fresh earth, and leather. Full-bodied, it has a tighter, more focused structure, with vibrant energy and good length. It will require patience, but it’s worth having a few in the cellar and checking back on in a couple of years. Drink 2027-2047. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 93 Vintage 2019 Wine Spectator There’s a dark, brooding aspect to this dense, muscular red, aligned with a core of spicy cherry, blackberry, licorice, earth and toasty oak flavors. A broad swath of tannins informs the finish for now, yet a beam of vibrant acidity focuses everything through the long, salty finish. Syrah. Drink now through 2033.—B.S. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 91 Vintage 2019 Wine Enthusiast Cherries, char, and orange pepper emerge on a nose that is laced with eucalyptus. Roasted cherries, pepper jack, and pomegranate rush over the palate that has finely polished tannin. Bright acid comes out of the finish with well integrated oak. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 94 Vintage 2018 Wine Advocate Showing three tiny roses on the front label copied from the family crest, Castello del Terriccio's namesake 2018 Castello del Terriccio is Syrah and Petit Verdot (with some complementary grapes) that was first produced in 2000. Eighteen year later, this vintage feels very complete and has copious dark fruit, spice and bitter chocolate. The robust flavor profile is upheld by integrated tannins and lively freshness. To close, there are highlights of Mediterranean herbs that recall rosemary and lavender, perfumed but not too green. The winery team is satisfied with this vintage because the growing season was cooler (compared to 2017) with more rain and a warm summer. The vineyards are not irrigated and rainwater penetrated deep underground to the roots. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 93 Vintage 2018 James Suckling A fine and caressing red with berry and chocolate character. Medium body. Light tannins and a clean and delicious finish. Very delicious is all I can say. Hints of spice and sage to the fruit at the end. A syrah and petit verdot-based blend. Drink or hold. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
