  • Score: 92 Vintage 2021 James Suckling A dense, velvety and delicious Chianti Classico showing aromas of Morello cherries, wild berries and dried flowers on the nose. Medium-bodied with fine tannins. Plenty of texture, with a core of berries funneling through. Flavorful finish. Drink or hold. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 91 Vintage 2021 Wine Spectator Maraschino cherry, pomegranate, smoked meat, earth and rosemary flavors highlight this sleek red, which is defined by vivid acidity and solid tannins, with a dry, sinewy finish. Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Best from 2026 through 2037. 3,000 cases made, 1,250 cases imported. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 91 Vintage 2021 Vinous The 2021 Chianti Classico is an elegant, gracious wine. Crushed flowers, bright red-toned fruit, tobacco, cinnamon and dried flowers all take shape in a decidedly delicate, understated wine from Rampolla. A model of elegance and finesse, the 2021 is showing beautifully today. There is perhaps just a touch of VA in the bouquet, but it is not especially evident. The blend is 80% Sangiovese, 16% Merlot and a dollop of Cabernet Sauvignon. The Sangiovese was aged in cask, while the French varieties were raised in smaller French barrels. • Score: 93 Vintage 2020 Wine Advocate The 2020 Chianti Classico is Sangiovese with small parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. This is a lovely wine with a level of punchiness, brightness and inner energy that is never easy to achieve, especially in a warm vintage such as this. That's the Panzano magic, enhanced in this case by the estate's non-interventionist winemaking philosophy. You'll love to drink this entry-level wine no matter what your personal preference in Sangiovese style. Production is 31,373 bottles. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 93 Vintage 2020 James Suckling A classic Chianti Classico with plums, strawberries and peaches on the nose and palate. Medium-bodied with very fine tannins and a long, linear finish with brightness and focus. Juicy finish. Drinkable now, but even better in a year or two. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 91 Vintage 2020 Vinous Media The 2020 Chianti Classico is brilliant. Vibrant and deep, with striking inner perfume, the 2020 dazzles with gorgeous inner aromas and fine balance. There's good depth and texture, but perhaps not quite the excitement of the best years. April was especially challenging for Sangiovese, which lowered yields considerably. • Score: 95 Vintage 2019 James Suckling This is a fantastic Chianti Classico with so much complexity and intensity. Cherry, chocolate, hazelnut and wet earth with some black truffle. It’s medium-bodied with depth of fruit and fantastic texture and length. Don’t miss this. Sangiovese, cabernet sauvignon and merlot. Unfiltered. Very drinkable now, but one for the cellar. • Score: 94 Vintage 2019 Wine Enthusiast Juicy and delicious, this opens with aromas of iris, rose, dried aromatic herbs and wild berries. Smooth and medium-bodied, the palate features succulent Marasca cherry, ripe raspberry, ground clove and crushed mint set against taut, fine-grained tannins. Fresh acidity keeps it balanced. Drink 2023–2028. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 93 Vintage 2019 Wine Advocate This is such a pretty wine and such an absolute pleasure to drink, thanks to its intrinsic simplicity and brightness. The Castello dei Rampolla 2019 Chianti Classico gives us a textbook rendition of Tuscany's Sangiovese grape, with the extra brightness, sharpness and crisp acidity that comes naturally. This wine reveals a profoundly authentic character with wild berry, lavender, garden soil and crushed aspirin. You could drink it now or possibly stretch its drinking window to the 10-year mark. • Score: 93 Vintage 2019 Vinous Media The 2019 Chianti Classico is an explosion of aromas and flavors. Freshly cut, flowers and red/purplish fruit abound. A classic example of the year, Rampolla's Chianti Classico is flat-out gorgeous and one of the best recent editions I can remember tasting. The 2019 is a blend of Sangiovese (aged in cask) plus dollops of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon (done in French oak). Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 92 Vintage 2019 Wine Spectator An inviting red, with strawberry, cherry, rose hip and floral aromas and flavors allied to an elegant frame. Features a firm backbone of tannins and lively acidity, which provide support, and lingers with bright fruit and a crisp feel. Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Drink now through 2030. 3,000 cases made, 1,250 cases imported. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 94 Vintage 2018 Wine and Spirits The Di Napoli family has vines in Panzano, farmed biodynamically for 25 years, yielded an impressively dark and plummy wine in 2018. It opens with a hint of volatility that blows off to reveal scents of lavender and violet. The wine ripe black-cherry flavors are infused with powerful, mineral tannins that keep it taut through the finish. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 94 Vintage 2018 Wine Enthusiast Black-skinned fruit, new leather, tilled earthy and blue flower aromas mingle with camphor on this fragrant, enticing red. Fresh and savory, the elegant, full-bodied palate doles out ripe black plum, juicy Morello cherry, licorice and tobacco alongside polished tannins that give it a velvety texture. Fresh acidity lends brightness and balance. Drink 2022–2028. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 93 Vintage 2018 James Suckling A wonderful young Chianti Classico with aromas and flavors of black cherries, dark chocolate, wet earth and black truffle. It’s full-bodied with creamy and juicy tannins and a long, flavorful finish. Drink or hold. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 93 Vintage 2018 Vinous Media The 2018 Chianti Classico is fabulous. Deep, rich and super-expressive, the 2018 captures the essence of the house style, with a dollop of Cabernet Sauvignon that adds both complexity and structural intensity. Black cherry, plum, licorice, lavender and dried herbs are kicked up a few notches. This is an especially rich style for the year, but it works so well. Shelf Talker Full Page Review

  • Score: 92 Vintage 2018 Wine Spectator Smooth and charming, delivering cherry, strawberry, mineral and tobacco flavors on a graceful frame. This is almost seamless at this young stage and should provide pleasure over the next decade. Drink now through 2030. 2,900 cases made, 625 cases imported. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 92 Vintage 2018 Wine Advocate The Castello dei Rampolla 2018 Chianti Classico shows some softness and extra ripeness with dark fruit and plum followed by savory smoke and spice. This wine is an expression of the one and only Panzano in Chianti, a promising subzone in the larger Chianti Classico appellation with panoramic views awash in soft golden light at the end of each glorious day. To the palate, the wine delivers rich, mid-weight intensity with more textured and succulent flavors to follow. This wine is just lovely, especially when tasted right out of the gate when those cherry and blackberry tones are at their brightest. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 94 Vintage 2017 Wine Enthusiast Plum, fragrant blue flower, leather and ripe berry are just some of the aromas you'll find on this fragrant, delicious wine. It's chewy and enveloping but also boasts a weightless elegance, delivering juicy Marasca cherry, cranberry compote, licorice and tobacco while velvety fine-grained tannins offer polished support. Drink through 2023. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 93 Vintage 2017 James Suckling The nose of this Chianti Classico is unique, with abundant fresh rose petals, orange zest and lemon peel. Medium-bodied and very lithe yet firm on the palate. Elegant and very taut and tangy on the finish. So well done in a challenging vintage. Drink now. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 92 Vintage 2017 Wine Spectator Almond and chestnut notes accent the cherry flavors in this broad, tannic red. Features ample fruit, while a sweetness returns at the end, suggesting that this will achieve equilibrium with time. Leather, earth and iron elements add depth. Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Best from 2022 through 2032. 1,380 cases made, 500 cases imported. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 88 Vintage 2017 Wine Advocate The 2017 Chianti Classico is a tad too ripe for my tastes. You taste the heat of the vintage in those aromas of blackberry preserves and strawberry jam. Background notes of apricot and candied orange peel add to that characteristic hot vintage bouquet. I would suggest a near-term drinking window as a result. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 94 Vintage 2016 Wine Spectator Purity and intensity mark this supple, complex red, bursting with black cherry, black currant, plum, graphite, sanguine and tobacco notes that show an underlying woodsy accent. The well-integrated structure lends support as this plays out on the long finish. Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Best from 2021 through 2035. 2,916 cases made, 850 cases imported. –BS Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 92 Vintage 2016 Wine Enthusiast Ripe black-skinned berry, underbrush, violet, new leather and cake spice aromas shape the nose on this earthy, fragrant red. Bright and savory, the vigorous palate offers juicy Marasca cherry, raspberry jam, cinnamon and star anise alongside a hint of game. Taut, grainy tannins provide support. Drink 2021–2026. • Score: 91 Vintage 2016 Wine and Spirits One of our tasting- panel members called this “a great natural wine to show someone who doesn’t drink natural wine.” It opens with some volatile notes that blow off to reveal palate-saturating flavors of black cherry and sour plum that are more blue-fruited than typical of sangiovese, perhaps derived from the small percentages of merlot and cabernet sauvignon included in the blend. Raspy tannins frame the flavors, which seem to gain vitality with exposure to air. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
