Trentino At a Glance
Region NameTrentino
In the northernmost reaches of Italy, close to the Austrian border, the dramatic landscape is a fitting backdrop to one of the world’s most important wine-producing areas.
Score: 93Vintage 2018Vinous MediaAlways a showstopper, the 2018 Mach Riserva del Fondatore is distinctly savory and rich in the glass, balancing notes of buttery brioche and custard with dried peaches and dusty florals. It washes across the palate with prominence but also elegance, as satiny bubbles and saline mineral tones usher in notes of baked apple and brown spice. For all of its power and depth, this finishes remarkably fresh while remaining potent and long, leaving nuances of ground ginger, apricot and a pretty inner sweetness to linger on and on and on. The Mach Riserva del Fondatore is a blend of 70% Chardonnay and 30% Pinot Nero fermented in a combination of barrique and steel tanks, followed by lees aging for another four years.Shelf TalkerFull Page Review

Score: 93Vintage 2016Vinous MediaThe 2016 Mach Riserva del Fondatore wafts up with savory aromas that remind me of nostalgic Sunday dinners, as smoke blows off to reveal savory herbs and spices, fresh baked breads and a hint of fresh red meat. This is rich and silky, filling the palate with a fine bead of bubbles, as hints of ginger and baked apple cascade across the senses. It tapers off amazingly fresh and with a pretty inner sweetness, as a vivid note of pear slowly tapers off. If the 2016 sounds unique, trust me, it is; but the Riserva del Fondatore is also a pleasure to taste and truly captivating. (Lot# 20220)Shelf TalkerFull Page Review
