Piemonte is considered by many the top wine region of Italy, being the land of Barolo and Barbaresco, even though these mega-popular wines only account for 3% of the region’s wine production.
Score: 96Vintage 2021James SucklingThis wine is more restrained than fruity, with aromas of dried flowers, cinnamon, youthful red cherries, balsamic, earth and minerals. Full-bodied on the graceful and powerful palate, with super-polished tannins and refreshing acidity in the finish. Drinkable now, but best from 2027.Shelf TalkerFull Page Review
Score: 95Vintage 2021The Wine Advocate The Poderi Luigi Einaudi 2021 Barolo Terlo Vigna Costa Grimaldi is already silky and glossy in texture with a beautiful entry to the palate. There is a long slide of cassis and wild cherry followed by soft violet, sweet almond and licorice. Those Terlo tannins are firm but not excessively so, and the wine's texture is poised to become ever-more silky in time. Production is 5,053 bottles and some larger formats too.Shelf TalkerFull Page Review
Score: 94Vintage 2020Vinous MediaThe 2020 Barolo Terlo Vigna Costa Grimaldi marries fruit depth and structure. It is the most classically austere of these wines in feel, even if it saw a bit more new oak than the other Barolos. Dark blue fruit, spice, leather, licorice, gravel and menthol build in an explosive, deep Barolo that will require some cellaring. Aging took place half in tonneaux and half in cask.Shelf TalkerFull Page Review
Score: 94Vintage 2020James SucklingThis is more vibrant and fruit-forward offering notes of dark cherries, wild berries, spices and dried flowers. Hints of bark, too. Medium-bodied. Firm but refined and polished with a juicy center palate that leads to a linear, lightly chewy finish. Try after 2027.Shelf TalkerFull Page Review

Features a floral component that leans more toward violet than rose, with hints of underbrush and menthol. Shows fine balance and length. Best from 2026 through 2042.Shelf TalkerFull Page Review

Score: 90Vintage 2020Wine EnthusiastThis incense-driven Barolo from Terlo is an aromatic gem, with lifted notes of sandalwood, clove, and dried roses on the nose, accompanied by subtle dried cherry aromas. The palate is mouth-filling, with cooked sour cherry and raspberry flavors, balanced by a savory finish and an appealing tension that holds the wine together. Score: 91Vintage 2019Wine EnthusiastAromas of roasted cherries, burnt sage and dried roses lift from the glass of this classy Barolo. The well-balanced palate opens to sour red fruit, medicinal herbs and rosewood finishing with superfine tannins that seem soft but sneak up on you, giving the wine more power on the bright finish. Drink 2025–2040.Shelf TalkerFull Page Review
