  • Score: 94 Vintage 2021 James Suckling A super-complex and slightly evolved wine. Bittersweet character on the nose, with aromas of orange marmalade, white peaches, orange blossoms and flinty minerality. Peaty on the palate, with a light to medium body, zesty acidity, weight, concentration and a long, salted finish. Drink or hold. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 91 Vintage 2021 Vinous Media Shaved lemon rinds, crushed green apples, sweet smoke and melon sorbet form the 2021 Riesling's bouquet. It's soft and remarkably fresh, with a finessed style of young peach and minerals that cascade across the palate. Lime and Granny Smith notes linger as the 2021 finishes clasically dry and with medium length. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 94 Vintage 2020 James Suckling Intense and concentrated nose with hints of honey, white nuts and wax to the fresh green mangoes, flint and kiwi. Steely on the palate with plenty of nectarines and guava. Lots of energy here. Drink now. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 92 Vintage 2020 Vinous Media The 2020 Riesling is more lifted and graceful in style, with a pretty bouquet of lemon oils, minty herbs and hints of vanilla bean that keep me returning to the glass. It is more savory than sweet, with soft textures and depths of mineral-tinged orchard fruits. A tart citrus concentration forms toward the close. The 2020 finishes long, staining and lightly structured, as a salty sensation slowly fades. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 91 Vintage 2020 Wine Spectator A lovely white, exuding pine, petrol, slate and ripe fruit on the nose. Fine and lacy in texture, with vibrant acidity crackling through flavors of baked yellow and white peach, Marcona almond, fleur de sel and white blossoms. Drink now through 2026. 550 cases made, 100 cases imported. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 95 Vintage 2019 James Suckling Clearly the best riesling from Trentino I ever encountered! A wealth of citrus aromas, from lemon blossom to orange cream, on the enticing yet delicate nose. Just a hint of toasted white bread there. Impressive ripeness and concentration on the medium-bodied palate are married to very elegant acidity and tons of wet-stone character at the long, intense finish. Only just beginning to give its best! Drink or hold. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 92 Vintage 2019 Wine Enthusiast The nose of this Riesling is penetrating and visceral with aromas of preserved peaches, pressed mountain flowers and heady petrol vapors. The palate is lush with creamy tart pears, apricot and jasmine flavors finishing with intense minerality and classic Riesling acidity. Drink now–2035. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 91 Vintage 2019 Wine Spectator A well-cut white, with a gorgeous waft of petrol on the nose that's more subtle on the palate, underscoring ripe apple and nectarine fruit notes and delicate accents of white pepper and dried thyme. Light-bodied and linear up front, expanding nicely through to the creamy finish. Drink now through 2028. 550 cases made, 100 cases imported. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 91 Vintage 2019 Vinous Media A classic and slightly exotic mix of tropical melon, lemon oil, smoke and hints of petrol lifts from the 2019 Riesling. It’s soft yet focused and vertical in feel, with a touch of sour citrus that gives way to green apple and stony mineral tones. This leaves a staining of lime-tinged pear and hints of minty herbs to linger long. The Riesling of San Leonardo is refined for one year in tonneaux with monthly battonage, which adds a depth of texture. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 91 Vintage 2019 Wine Spectator A lovely nose of petrol and pencil shavings transitions to flavors of poached pear, preserved lemon, Marcona almond and salty mineral on the broad and creamy palate. Light- to medium-bodied, shows a zesty acidity providing focus and lithe structure. Drink now through 2026. 500 cases made, 100 cases imported. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 90 Vintage 2018 Vinous Media The 2018 Riesling is perfumed yet finessed with a mix of white florals, lemon curds and crushed rocks. There’s a mineral tension here that nicely offsets its silky textures, as notes of young mango settle on the palate. This leaves the cheeks puckered with a lemony concentration, as it finishes with persistence. I like the citrus intensity here, like biting into a fresh lemon wedge, but with the sweetness to balance. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 94 Vintage 2017 James Suckling Lovely lemon-zest, peach, floral and nettle aromas lead you gently into this sophisticated, medium-bodied dry riesling that makes a serious statement. At the long finish there’s a fascinating interplay of mineral acidity and citrus character. Drink or hold. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 91 Vintage 2017 Wine Spectator A beautiful nose of petrol and spice draws you into the glass of this elegant white, where a streak of salty minerality underscores poached quince, elderflower, Meyer lemon peel and dried mint flavors. Fine and creamy, with a lingering finish. Drink now through 2027. 550 cases made, 50 cases imported. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 89 Vintage 2017 Vinous Media The 2017 Riesling is a bit dark at first, with an earthy mix of crushed almonds, baked apple and hints of brown spice. This is silky and round, with notes of ripe pear and young peach all framed by saline-minerals and juicy acidity. It finishes long with a lemony twang that keeps the mouth watering. The lack of freshness in the bouquet detracts a bit here, yet the expression on the palate is highly enjoyable. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 93 Vintage 2016 Wine Advocate The Tenuta San Leonardo 2016 Trentino Riesling shows loads of varietal purity with quince, pear, Golden Delicious apple, honey and dried papaya. All that fruit is put under a lens, provided by sharp mineral tones, for extra focus and clarity. This is a generous, lean to mid-weight Riesling with touches of Mediterranean warmth and golden, citrusy fruit that is characteristic of the mountainous Trentino region. I tasted bottle number 536 of just 6,250 produced. I would love to come back to this bottle in five years' time. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 90 Vintage 2016 Vinous Media The 2016 Riesling San Leonardo shows a gorgeous mix of tropical citrus, white strawberry, honey blossom and sweet subtle spice. It’s soft, silky and elegant, ushering in notes of yellow apple, young mango and hints of roasted almond, all riding a vibrant core of juicy acids, making for a stimulating yet fully satiating expression. The mouth aches with earthy mineral tension, tapering off to a note of dried apricot. The San Leonardo Riesling spends twelve months on the lees in a combination of new and once-used French oak barrels. It’s a seductive and age-worthy expression of the variety. • Score: 93 Vintage 2015 Wine Advocate I had already reviewed this wine in 2018, but I found it to be so beautifully evolved and changed that I wanted to publish an updated note. On this second try, I tasted bottle 5,862 of 6,070 produced. The Tenuta San Leonardo 2015 Trentino Riesling opens to rising aromatic intensity that comes in the form of ripe peach, honey, Anjou pear and some distant tropical tones. This sunny vintage certainly comes through in terms of the wine's silky and smooth finish. There's good reason to hold this bottle for a few more years. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 91 Vintage 2015 Wine Spectator This fresh, light- to medium-bodied white is loaded with petrol on the nose, but the minerally presence turns more subtle on the creamy palate, underscoring the baked peach, lemon pastry cream and crushed almond flavors that echo on the finish. Drink now through 2025. 100 cases imported. –AN Shelf Talker Full Page Review
