Region NameUmbria
Bordering on Tuscany and right above Rome is the lesser-known and lesser-traveled region of Umbria. Without access to either the sea or international borders, it is affectionately referred to as the “green heart of Italy.”
Score: 88Vintage 2021Wine SpectatorSpice, graphite and leather accents are a fragrant thread winding through flavors of plumped black cherry and black plum fruit. This is lightly chewy and balanced, with herb and smoke notes on the finish. Drink now. 5,650 cases made, 1,250 cases imported.Shelf TalkerFull Page Review
Score: 90Vintage 2020Wine EnthusiastAromas of macerated cherries, orange zest, clove and wildflowers flow from the glass. Bright and fresh on the palate with crunchy red fruits both fresh and dried, and savory herbs with fine tannins make this a perfect weekday pasta night wine. Shelf TalkerFull Page Review
Score: 88Vintage 2020Vinous MediaThe 2020 Montefalco Rosso opens with an herbal-tinged blend of blackberries and white pepper. It's soft and round with wild berry fruit, yet I find myself craving more energy. The medium-length finish leaves hints of black licorice. I tasted from two separate bottles with consistent results.Shelf TalkerFull Page Review

It’s soft-textured and lifted in feel, with a burst of inner sweetness that gives way to notes of wild strawberry and mint. This tapers off with medium length and juicy, leaving nuances of blackberry and violet pastille.Shelf TalkerFull Page Review
Score: 91Vintage 2016James SucklingI like the bright pomegranate, cranberry and fresh-herb character on the nose and palate. Medium-bodied with well-integrated tannins and a clean, flavorful finish. Surprising freshness considering its age. All in place and nice to drink now.Shelf TalkerFull Page Review
Score: 92Vintage 2015Vinous MediaThe 2015 Colpetrone Rosso di Montefalco is much more refined and perfumed than I would have expected from this warm vintage, showing peppery herbs and dusty florals, plus crushed red wild berries and a hint of dusty earth. On the palate, silky textures envelop all that they touch in ripe cherry fruit and sweet spices, made juicy through vibrant acidity and minerals, as round tannins slowly settle in. The finish is medium in length, leaning more toward the tart black fruit spectrum, yet with a salty twang that makes the mouth water. The 2017 is really quite stunning today. A blend of 70% Sangiovese with equal parts Merlot and Sagrantino.Shelf TalkerFull Page Review
Score: 92Vintage 2015James SucklingThe candied strawberries and caramelized orange peel draw you in on the nose; then you notice hints of ash and red licorice. The full-bodied palate has quite a serious tannin backbone, and vibrant red fruit lies beneath waiting to be drawn out tightly by a fine acid edge. The finish is quite fruit-forward. Drink now.Shelf TalkerFull Page Review
