Score: 91Vintage 2019James SucklingWild berries, dried flowers, pine cones and forest scents here. It’s medium-bodied with spices, dried flowers and fruit on the palate, too. Sleek tannins. Drink or hold.Shelf TalkerFull Page Review
Score: 93Vintage 2018James SucklingThis is showing notes of currants, licorice, cloves and walnuts. It’s spicy and flavorful, medium- to full-bodied, with firm and polished tannins. Long, rich and tasty. Drink or hold.Shelf TalkerFull Page Review
Score: 92Vintage 2017Vinous MediaThe 2017 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Selezione Antica Chiusina wafts up with a darkly floral mix of dusty black currants, lavender and smoke. This is an elegant expression of polished black fruits with mineral underpinnings, as silky textures soothe and fine tannins slowly saturate. Youthfully structured yet long, the 2017 finishes perfumed with blue and purple inner florals that seem to last for up to a minute. This is an excellent rendition of the vintage, but it will need time to show its best.Shelf TalkerFull Page Review

Score: 92Vintage 2017James SucklingA medium-bodied red with plenty of sour and dried cherries on the nose, as well as cloves, musk and potpourri. Perfumed on the palate, too, with dried pine and spice. Ultra fine tannins and a fresh finish. Drink from 2021.Shelf TalkerFull Page Review
Score: 94Vintage 2016Vinous MediaSweet exotic spices come together with dried and candied citrus peels, black cherries, currants and leather to form a beguiling bouquet on the 2016 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Antica Chiusina. Here I’m finding sensual, round textures, velvety yet not weighty, with polished dark fruits and minerals offset by a twang of citrus, as fine-grained tannins saturate toward the close. It’s long and staining, almost chewy with structure, yet it also possesses all of the primary components for a long and steady evolution. This needs time to come together, yet it’s packed full of potential. I’m looking forward to retasting in five to ten years.Shelf TalkerFull Page Review

Score: 88Vintage 2015Wine EnthusiastThis has rather subdued aromas of leather, mocha, wild berry and a whiff of baking spice. The palate is on the lean side, offering dried cherry and star anise alongside lithe tannins. A coffee-bean note marks the close. Drink through 2022. KERIN O’KEEFEShelf TalkerFull Page Review
Score: 89Vintage 2014Wine EnthusiastPackaged in an exceedingly heavy bottle, this has delicate aromas evoking prune, exotic spice and moist soil. The linear palate is rather lean and ethereal, offering dried cherry, licorice and espresso. Close-grained tannins leave a somewhat drying finish. KERIN O’KEEFEShelf TalkerFull Page Review
Score: 90Vintage 2013Wine SpectatorThis has reached a sweet spot, mellowing to a combination of fading cherry, plum, autumn woods, smoke, leather and tobacco aromas and flavors. Still shows a firm grip of tannins, but should stand up to winter stews and braised meats. Drink now through 2027. 2,500 cases made, 25 cases imported.Shelf TalkerFull Page Review
