Like many Italian regions, Campania is home to an impressive array of grape varieties, some found almost nowhere else on earth. Its most important variety is arguably Aglianico, the grape behind the region’s two most famous and respected red wines: Taurasi and Aglianico del Taburno.

Score: 92Vintage 2020Vinous MediaDusty and floral, the 2020 Core Rosso wafts up with an alluring bouquet that blends cedar shavings with dried black cherries and lifting whiffs of sage. This is round and juicy in style yet still quite complex. A core of zesty acidity and hints of citrus offset depths of tart red and black fruits. The 2020 finishes long yet fresh, with rosy inner florals and notes of licorice that linger on and on.Shelf TalkerFull Page Review
Score: 94Vintage 2019James SucklingThis has an attractive nose of blackberries, olives, charcuterie, peppercorns and cloves. Some iodine and lemon zest. Medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, spread evenly across the palate, layered with fresh dark fruit and peppery spice notes. Drink or hold.Shelf TalkerFull Page Review
Score: 92Vintage 2019Vinous MediaA sweet mix of violet and lavender engulfs a crushed blackberry core as the aromatically seductive 2019 Rosso Core opens in the glass. It’s soft and round in texture, with polished red and black fruits offset by a core of stimulating acidity. This maintains fantastic freshness while finishing lightly structured, with just a hint of sour citrus that punctuates the experience beautifully. This is just about as good as a no-frills Aglianico can get.Shelf TalkerFull Page Review
Score: 92Vintage 2019Wine AdvocateA pure expression of Aglianico, the Montevetrano 2019 Core Rosso (with a big read heart on the front label) is a love song from vintner Silvia Imparato to her homeland. This dynamic woman helped to change and modernize the image of Campania wines over the years, and she was among the first to shine a light on the little-known province of Salerno. This is a less formal red wine, engineered for epic nights under the stars with second and third servings of pasta and meat on the grill. The wine is bright and lifted with dark cherry, light spice and a satisfying, food-friendly personality. Production is 20,000 bottles, and the value you get is considerable.Shelf TalkerFull Page Review
Score: 89Vintage 2019Wine SpectatorFresh and finely balanced, this medium-bodied red reveals ripe black currant and fig cake flavors laced with fragrant cured tobacco, sandalwood and mineral notes. Cabernet Sauvignon, Aglianico and Merlot. Drink now through 2025. 1,000 cases made, 200 cases imported.Shelf TalkerFull Page Review
Score: 94Vintage 2018James SucklingSuper balance to this intense red with exquisite spice to the mixed berries on the nose, following through to a full body with fine, well-integrated tannins, succulent fruit and a long, elegant and flavorful finish. All in place and lovely to drink now, but best from 2023.Shelf TalkerFull Page Review
Score: 89Vintage 2018Wine SpectatorA bright red that's herbaceous on the nose, with an aromatic thread accenting the palates wild cherry and raspberry fruit, orange peel and smoke notes. Tangy and lightly chewy on the finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Aglianico and Merlot. Drink now through 2025. 1,000 cases made, 200 cases imported.Shelf TalkerFull Page Review
Score: 89Vintage 2018Vinous MediaThe 2018 Rosso Core impresses with its mix of dark rich fruits, exotic spices, crushed ashen stone and peppery herbs. This is unexpectedly soft and lifted in feel, with a pure display of ripe plum complemented by nuances of sage and rosy inner florals that form toward the close. A layer of fine tannin dries the expression through the finale, as echoes of licorice and black currants linger. The 2018 Core, a varietal Aglianico, could use a short stay in the cellar to unwind. That said, this is a very lifted and cool-toned expression that will perform best over the short term.Shelf TalkerFull Page Review
