Camigliano

Overview
Estate
Camigliano is one of Montalcino's historic estates. Acquired by the Ghezzi family in 1957, the property spans approximately 530 hectares, including vineyards, olive groves, arable land, and woodland surrounding the medieval hamlet of Camigliano.
Climate
Located 10 km southwest of Montalcino, between 820 and 1,148 feet a.s.l., the estate faces the Maremma. Constant ventilation, abundant sunshine, and the influence of the Tyrrhenian coast favor healthy grapes and consistent ripening.
Soil
A mosaic of galestro, clay, limestone, and sandstone-derived soils. Extensive soil mapping has enabled the estate to match specific vineyard parcels to their most suitable varieties and wine styles.
Vineyards
Approximately 90 hectares of vineyards, organically farmed since 2017. Sangiovese is the dominant variety, planted across multiple parcels that contribute to Brunello, Rosso di Montalcino, and the single-vineyard Gualto Riserva.
Cultivation
Certified organic viticulture with parcel selection, low-impact farming, and a strong focus on biodiversity across the wider agricultural estate.
Winery
A gravity-assisted underground winery was designed to minimize landscape impact. Vinification combines modern precision with traditional aging for Brunello, highlighting vineyard identity and balance.
Family
The Ghezzi family transformed Camigliano from a mixed farm into one of Montalcino’s largest family-owned wine estates, preserving ownership and long-term stewardship for more than sixty years.
Winemaker
Michele Turchi. His approach focuses on precision viticulture, site expression, and the production of elegant Brunello wines that reflect the diversity of Camigliano’s extensive vineyard holdings.
