La Lastra

Overview
Estate
La Lastra is a small, family-run estate located just outside Siena, on the southeastern slopes overlooking the city. Established in the 1990s, the winery has built its reputation on a strong commitment to organic farming and to preserving the agricultural landscape around Siena.
Climate
The vineyards benefit from a continental-Mediterranean climate, moderated by altitude and constant air circulation. Significant day-night temperature variation supports aromatic development and preserves freshness in both white and red varieties.
Soil
Predominantly calcareous clay soils with sandstone components, typical of the Sienese hills. These soils retain water during dry summers while contributing structure and mineral character to the wines.
Vineyards
The estate farms a small vineyard, focusing on quality rather than volume. Sangiovese plays a central role alongside native and international varieties selected for their adaptation to the local terroir.
Cultivation
Certified organic farming has been a defining feature of La Lastra since its early years. Vineyard management prioritizes biodiversity, soil vitality, natural balance, and minimal environmental impact.
Winery
Production follows a low-intervention philosophy, combining modern hygiene standards with gentle extraction and careful maturation to preserve varietal purity and territorial identity.
Family
The winery remains family-owned and family-managed, with direct involvement in vineyard work, winemaking, and hospitality, reflecting a deeply artisanal approach.
Winemaker
The wines are carefully crafted by Renato Spanu and Enrico Paternoster.
