La Poderina

Overview

Estate

La Poderina is the Montalcino estate of the Saiagricola Group, located in Castelnuovo dell’Abate on the southeastern side of the denomination. Acquired in the 1980s, the property has become a benchmark for Brunello from one of Montalcino’s warmest and most distinctive growing areas.

Climate

The proximity of Monte Amiata protects the vineyards from extreme weather, while the southeast exposure ensures excellent sunlight interception. Warm conditions favor complete ripening, producing Brunello wines of richness, depth, and structure.

Soil

The vineyards are planted on a combination of clay-rich soils, galestro, and calcareous components. These soils retain water during dry vintages while providing the structure and mineral backbone typical of Castelnuovo dell’Abate.

Vineyards

Approximately 35 hectares of vineyards, predominantly Sangiovese. Parcels are distributed across different elevations and exposures, enabling separate vinification and contributing complexity to Brunello, Riserva, and single-estate selections.

Cultivation

Viticulture is based on detailed parcel management, yield control, and sustainable farming practices. Particular attention is given to matching vineyard potential to specific wine styles and aging programs.

Winery

The winery combines modern technology with traditional Brunello aging. Parcel-by-parcel vinification, temperature-controlled fermentation, and extensive oak aging are used to preserve vineyard identity and balance.

Family

As part of Saiagricola, La Poderina benefits from long-term investment, agronomic research, and technical expertise while maintaining a clear focus on the identity of Castelnuovo dell’Abate.

Winemaker

The technical team, led by Emanuele Nardi, follows a terroir-driven philosophy centered on Sangiovese, aiming to express the power, concentration, and longevity characteristic of the southeastern sector of Montalcino.

Focus Point

• South-eastern Montalcino terroir. • Influence of Monte Amiata. • Structured and age-worthy Brunello style.
