Score: 98Vintage 2023James SucklingPrecise and subtle aromas of black olives, brambleberries, sandalwood, iodine and oyster shells with a hint of meat. Medium- to full-bodied with tannins that run the length of the wine and show a compact and structured sensibility and wonderful length and finesse. Focused, with a classy texture. So long, continuous, graceful and refined. 100% merlot. Sustainable. Give it two or three years to come completely together.Shelf TalkerFull Page Review
Score: 96Vintage 2023The Wine Advocate One of Italy’s benchmark Merlots, the Tua Rita 2023 Redigaffi is the result of important fruit selection and a strong focus on purity, balance and freshness. Merlot performed well in 2023 with healthy vines, no hydric stress and extensive pre-harvest sorting to remove softer berries in favor of crunchy ones. The wine shows a creamy, almost lactic side with dark fruit, blackberry, cherry compote and notes of milk chocolate across a plush mid-palate. Aged in 80% new oak, Redigaffi delivers structure and power without jamminess, offering a beautifully controlled and tactile expression from a vineyard planted in four stages in 1988, 1996, 1997 and 2001, with production limited to around 10,000 bottles plus magnums.Shelf TalkerFull Page Review
Score: 94Vintage 2023VinousThe 2023 Redigaffi is laced with super-ripe dark fruit, truffle, dried herbs, licorice and mocha. Already quite open and delicate, the 2023 gives the impression of a wine that is ready to drink and that will likely mature at a slightly faster clip relative to the norm here.Shelf TalkerFull Page Review
Score: 98Vintage 2022Wine EnthusiastLike when in a dream you keep finding new rooms in your house that you didn't know were there, Redigaffi, no matter how many times I taste it, reveals new depth and breadth I didn't realize it had. The 2022 is revelatory.Shelf TalkerFull Page Review
Score: 98Vintage 2022James SucklingAromas of crushed fruit and white pepper with dried lavender and hints of violets and sage flowers. Stony undertones, too. Medium- to full-bodied, tight and focused, with reserve and beauty. And then it grows on the palate with polished and focused tannins that take it to another level. Exudes freshness and length, despite the hot growing season. A sophisticated red and with a long future ahead. Try after three to four years.Shelf TalkerFull Page Review
Score: 97Vintage 2022The Wine Advocate One of Italy's greatest Merlots, the Tua Rita 2022 Redigaffi is packed tight with sweet fruit, blackberry preserves, sweet spice and toasted oak. This is a fleshed out and generous expression with lots of proverbial fruit stuffing and volume. The oak aging regime includes 80% new wood and 20% neutral oak from various coopers, mostly sourcing from the tonnelleries Orion and de Mercurey. "There is no single recipe. We want to add as many colors to the palette as possible," says proprietor Stefano Frascolla. The idea is to maintain the identity of Merlot, he says, with muscle power and well-integrated tannins. The 2022 vintage accomplishes these goals in a package that is aromatic and rich yet also a little leaner and fresher in terms of finish. The overall message here is elegance.Shelf TalkerFull Page Review
Score: 96Vintage 2022VinousThe 2022 Redigaffi is packed with dark red cherry fruit, plum, blood orange, spice, cedar and new leather. Exotic floral notes develop with a bit of time in the glass. Firm tannins suggest a bit of cellaring is advisable. The 2022 is a terrific Redigaffi.Shelf TalkerFull Page Review
Score: 94Vintage 2022Wine SpectatorJuicy black currant and blackberry fruit is accented by vanilla and toasty oak in this balanced yet well-structured red. Hints of earth and iron add depth as the tannins on the finish suggest this should develop well. Merlot. Drink now through 2038.Shelf TalkerFull Page Review
Score: 98Vintage 2021Wine EnthusiastPutting aside the thrashing Merlot got from Hollywood, there is in fact good reason to be skeptical of Merlot thanks to its general mistreatment from winemakers far and wide, apart from the heaviest of heavy hitters who made a few expressions that became the ultimate exceptions to the rule. But I always love an underdog story, and I love Merlot from southwest Tuscany, especially RedigaffiShelf TalkerFull Page Review
Score: 97Vintage 2021VinousThe 2021 Redigaffi is superb. Silky, dense and expansive, with terrific depth, it possesses striking nuance from start to finish. Black cherry, plum, espresso, licorice and menthol infuse the 2021 with tons of resonance. Here, too, the approach is quite a bit dialed back from the early days.Shelf TalkerFull Page Review
Score: 96Vintage 2021The Wine Advocate The Tua Rita 2021 Redigaffi is a wine of thick character and dark extraction. This 100% expression of Merlot offers tension and extreme balance with very generous layers of dark cherry, plum, dried blackberry, spice and tobacco. It displays a spectacularly soft and velvety texture over a full-bodied approach. Redigaffi is often monolithic and monotone in its younger years, and it needs more bottle age to come into focus. This is very true for the 2021 vintage.Shelf TalkerFull Page Review
Score: 94Vintage 2021Wine SpectatorExuding black currant, blackberry, plum and iron flavors, this sleek version is also powerful, with beefy tannins, yet it's the vivid acidity that drives the long, toasty oak–infused aftertaste in the end. Merlot. Best from 2027 through 2043. 1,250 cases made, 360 cases imported.Shelf TalkerFull Page Review
Score: 98Vintage 2019James SucklingIt’s so perfumed on the nose, it takes your breath away. Dried rose petals and sage. Some tapenade. It’s medium- to full-bodied with very fine and silky tannins that last for minutes. Very polished. This is a gorgeous special bottling of old vines from one of Tuscany’s most famous merlots. Made from the oldest vines, 1,800 in total. Aged for three years in barrel and about a year in bottle. 421 magnums only. Drinkable but better in 2027.Shelf TalkerFull Page Review
