  • Score: 94 Vintage 2021 James Suckling This is spiced and citrusy with sliced pears, lime peel, savory herbs and raw almonds. Medium- to full-bodied, juicy and crunchy with tense, phenolic character. Steady and vivid acidity. Lengthy and mineral with a creamy finish. Drink now. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 92 Vintage 2021 Vinous Media The 2021 Sauvignon Blanc Piere is a spice bomb, holding my attention firm with a blast of ground ginger, cardamom, flint stone and curry before arriving at dried nectarines. It's luxuriously silky yet lifted in style, with cooling minerality and acidity that motivates its floral-laced green citrus and melon tones. For all of its intensity, the 2021 finishes crisp and with a classically dry feel, as savory herbal tones resonate on. There is so much pleasure in this upfront, fruit-focused, yet truly seductive Sauvignon. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 91 Vintage 2021 Wine Spectator Let this compact white open in the glass to reveal a fine, creamy range of apricot tarte, graphite, passion fruit coulis and Mediterranean scrub aromas and flavors, all underscored by a rich vein of smoky minerality. Racy, spiced finish. Best from 2024 through 2029. 600 cases made, 200 cases imported. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 92 Vintage 2020 James Suckling Green-fruited white with aromas of pink grapefruit, bell peppers, lemon leaves and lime curd. Full-bodied with a dense, compact palate. Lots of green-papaya and grapefruit character. Drink now. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 90 Vintage 2020 Wine Enthusiast Piere is the Friulian dialect for “stone” and the plethora of rocks covering this single vineyard bestows the name. This Sauvignon Blanc has aromas of grapefruit, lime zest, white flowers and a touch of jalapeño. The palate pops with vibrant acidity and amazing texture from the eight months of lees aging. As the wine develops, hints of stone fruit, citrus, crushed rock and dried white rose emerge. Drink now–2035. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 90 Vintage 2020 Wine Spectator Offering a nose of chopped chervil, crushed pine and flint, this fresh and fragrant wine transitions on the palate to show a plush texture and a subtle weave of pink grapefruit granita, gooseberry and white pepper. Long, chiseled finish. Drink now through 2025. 600 cases made, 200 cases imported. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 90 Vintage 2020 Vinous Media There’s a sharp herbal twang and note of flint that introduces the 2020 Sauvignon Blanc Piere, as it softens with time in the glass to show chalk dust and sour melon. This is rich and weighty on the palate with ripe orchard fruits, yet it is struggling a bit with its focus at this stage, as a sour twang of green citrus adds a tug of tension. It tapers off long and spicy with hints of tangerine and ginger. The 2020 needs time to come fully into focus. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 96 Vintage 2019 James Suckling The purity of fruit in this is really something, offering salt, chalk, sliced mango and papaya. It’s full and phenolic with layers of fruit and so much richness at the end. Yet, it’s ever so long and intense. Lasts for minutes. Drink or hold. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 92 Vintage 2019 Vinous Media The wildly intense bouquet of the 2019 Sauvignon Blanc Piere first leans toward the tropical spectrum, as kiwi and sour melon give way to pungent florals. However, time in the glass brings forward a more mellow and sweetly perfumed mix of ground ginger and lemon curd contrasted by fresh sea air. This is a textural thrill-ride, both glycerol and enveloping in feel, soothing the palate with notes of ripe citrus and peach, yet with a wonderful balance of acidity that creates lift and a more delicate feel to the experience. Nearly a minute goes by, and nuances of young mango, orange zests and custard echo throughout the finale; yet the end note here is one of freshness. There is an amazing amount of pleasure to be found here, and while I don’t see the 2019 as the longest-lived rendition of Piere, it will make a lot of people happy over the medium term. • Score: 94 Vintage 2018 James Suckling Wild aromas of peaches and fresh herbs with lemons follow through to a full body and creamy texture. Very tangy, fruity and intense. Licorice and stone notes, too. Drink now. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 91 Vintage 2018 Wine Advocate The Vie di Romans 2018 Friuli Isonzo Sauvignon Blanc Piere reveals a zesty and pure expression of the grape that does not hold back aromatically in this vintage. The bouquet is redolent of citrus, exotic fruit, green papaya and a pronounced touch of green olive. Indeed, those greenish aromas gain strength as the wine warms in the glass. Subtle mineral notes settle on the close and reinforce this wine's lean, crisp personality. This wine ages on the lees in stainless steel vats for nine months. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 91 Vintage 2018 Vinous Media The 2018 Piere will truly make you a believer in Sauvignon Blanc from Friuli. The bouquet is intense and classic, with masses of grassy wild herbs, lemon zest, crushed limestone, slate and hints of savory exotic spice. It’s sometimes savory and sometimes sweet; yet most of all, it’s the purity that comes through, like eating a ripe grapefruit with just a pinch of sugar on top. The cheeks pucker toward the close with a tart acid and citrus tug that begs you to take another sip while pretty inner florals linger on. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 92 Vintage 2017 Wine Advocate From a hot growing season with moments of challenging humidity at the end of summer, the Vie di Romans 2017 Friuli Isonzo Sauvignon Blanc Piere is snappy and crisp with white flower, exotic fruit and a green note of peppercorn or garden tomato leaf. I am reminded of green olive in the 2018 vintage, and I find that same aroma here but perhaps more faded. The wine is just a tad richer and more fleshed out in terms of mouthfeel, but the aromas are pronounced and generous. Production is 61,202 bottles. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 91 Vintage 2017 Wine and Spirits Notes of white pepper and grassy herbs accent this wine’s flavors of lime and white grapefruit. Hints of raw honey soften its jalapeño heat. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 89 Vintage 2017 Wine Spectator Poached apricot and Meyer lemon peel notes are accented by hints of jalapeño and passion fruit in this lip-smacking, light- to medium-bodied white, with a stony undertow. Drink now through 2023. 5,000 cases made, 288 cases imported. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 89 Vintage 2017 James Suckling Lots of sliced-apple and asparagus aromas and flavors. Herbal. Medium to full body. Some marzipan. Drink now. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
  • Score: 94 Vintage 2016 Wine Advocate The 2016 Friuli Isonzo Rive Alte Sauvignon Blanc Piere shows good earthy notes of green olive and sage, with other buoyant and tangy aromas of citrus orange peel as well as some crushed mineral on the palate. The spicy white pepper sensations are beautiful as well. It's a very nice offering that would pair well with chicken. Shelf Talker Full Page Review
